Bank of Valletta has turned down a request by the Professionals and Services Employees Union (PSEU) to review its decision not to renew the contract of four employees.
The union said that four employees, three of whom were its members, were employed on 1 June 2005 as customer relations persons on a definite contract. The contract was renewed last June until May this year. Four weeks ago, these employees were informed that their contract would not be renewed.
On 14 April, the union wrote to the bank requesting that the decision be reviewed and to offer the four employees permanent employment. The bank stood by its decision.
The PSEU is now to consult with its members at the bank to see what measures should be taken to defend the four
employees.
