Malta Independent Thursday, 17 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Swimmer Angela Galea (inset with flag) was named yesterday evening as the flagbearer of the Maltese contingent at the forthcoming Games for European Small States in Monaco between 5 and 9 June. MOC president Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco made the announcement in the presence of His Grace Mgr Pawlu Cremona, Archbishop of Malta. Mgr Cremona had just celebrated Holy Mass on a memorable evening at the University Sports Hall. The Archbishop then presented the Maltese flag to an emotional Angela who later told The Malta Independent that she was greatly honoured to have been selected for that role. “It is a dream come true,” she said, adding that she hoped to be an inspiration to her colleagues in the contingent by winning a medal on the first day of the Games. Mgr Cremona was also presented with some gifts by the Maltese Olympic Committee in the form of a track suit, a frame with his insigna and a silver salver to commemorate the occasion. Later he also had time to take pictures with the athletes and the officials before visiting the offices of the MOC.Swimmer Angela Galea (inset with flag) was named yesterday evening as the flagbearer of the Maltese contingent at the forthcoming Games for European Small States in Monaco between 5 and 9 June.
