Handball – APS Bank Leagues: Aloysians Prominent Clinch league title

Malta Independent Thursday, 17 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

It has been a long fought season this year for both La Salle and Aloysians, with both teams aiming to win the League.

Throughout the season the rivalry between the two teams sparkled the handball environment with the encounter of last Saturday being the summit of it all.

The table showed two points in favour of La Salle, who on paper were the better team. It was a balanced game, at times put more on the fighting spirit rather than technical and tactical ability.

Andrew Mifsud, between the posts, was a boost for La Salle’s spirit to keep the title but a good performance by Aloysians’ wingers Neville and Delicata succeeded to open the heart of La Salle’s defence making it easy for the backs to shoot and play with the pivot.

In the middle of the first half Aloysians succeeded to take a good advantage with La Salle being a bit disorganized in defence.

In between the posts Aloysians were safe with Clinton Mifsud having a good game for the new champions.

In the second half La Salle tried to do a reaction mainly through their asset Andrew Mifsud and defensive player Ian Psaila and they were succeeding with 13 minutes left but their reaction proved too late in the game with Aloysians being crowned the new handball champions.

Referees: Thomas Degiorgio Stefan Debono
