Back To The Myth

Malta Independent Saturday, 19 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Local rock band The Myth is arguably one of the oldest rock bands in Malta. Playing continuously since its inception in 1990, the band has seen quite a few line up and musical style changes, but its original philosophy of providing the best music possible is still there.

The Myth was formed by Dion Farrell on guitars and vocals and Mark Galea on drums. These two friends are still playing with the band, together with Karen Farrell on guitars and backing vocals, Edward Muscat on the guitar and Patrick Mifsud on the bass guitar.

Throughout these 17 years, The Myth has been featured in almost all local newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations. It has also been asked to support foreign acts like The Eagles Tribute band in 1996, Status Quo in 1998 and Smokie in 1999.

Earlier this year, a decision was taken to take the band to another level. To this end, Joanne Cutajar was appointed as an agent and the band has already performed live in four concerts this year alone. Further live shows in top local venues are also planned for the forthcoming months.

On 30 April this year, the band launched its official website www.themyth.org on which they had been working hard for the past five months. All the necessary work, including programming, web-designing and photographs was undertaken by the band members themselves.

The members had three important features in mind: the site had to be original, comprehensive and user friendly. As for originality, it was decided to give the site a black and white look instead of full colour like many other sites. Other details include the Skip Intro which, when about to be pressed, changes automatically into Enter Site. The usual mouse pointer changes to the band’s logo and the link pictures change size and colour when pressed or about to be pressed.

There is no doubt that the site is comprehensive. It contains a detailed history of the band plus personal information about its members. There are also more than 30 photos, a list of past and future events and even copies of newspaper cuttings, posters and the band’s original song list and lyrics.

As for user friendliness, when entering the site the user will find the links for all this information laid neatly on both sides of the screen. The required information will be displayed in the centre of the page while the links will remain in place, thus avoiding the need to press the back button to go from one link to another.

Members of sites such as MySpace, Hi5 and Soundclick can join the friends list by logging on www.myspace.com/themythband or http://themythrockband.hi5.com or www.soundclick.com/themythrockband
