The last of the Friday Evening Concert Series for this month is a guitar and violin recital with guitarist Evan Plumpton and violinist Sarah Spiteri which will take place next Friday 25 May at 8pm at the Sagrestia Vault, Valletta Waterfront organised by Barocco Cultural Events.
The programme features the famous guitar piece Leyanda by Albeniz, the Polacca by the famous Italian violist and composer Paganini, and from Piazzolla, the Argentine tango composer and bandoneón the Histoire du Tango, where the violinist and guitarist tell the history of tango in four pieces of music styled at 30-year intervals: Bordel (1900); Café (1930); Nightclub (1960); amd Concerto d’Aujourd hui.
Guitarist Evan Plumpton started guitar lessons at the tender age of seven. Having obtained the FLCM (guitar performing), and A Mus VCM (theory) Evan furthered his studies with Simon Schembri (Malta), John Mills and Carlos Bonell (England) and Domenico Spada (Italy). He holds a B. A. (Hons) degree from the University of Malta in guitar performance and is currently teaching at the Johann Strauss School of Music in Valletta.
Sarah Spiteri (violin) started her musical studies in Malta, where she obtained her Licentiate of the Trinity College. In 1990, having won the Bice Mizzi Vassallo Music Competition, she continued her studies in Lyon, France. Sarah also followed a number of international master classes, namely at the Accademia Chigana, Siena, following courses both in violin technique with Boris Belkin and in computer music with Giorgio Nottoli and Riccardo Santoboni. Sarah holds a BA (Hons) in Theatre studies, and a post graduate in Dramatherapy from the University of Surrey, Roehampton.
The entrance to the concert is through the chapel at the Valletta Waterfront. Guests will be able to enjoy a glass of Maltese wine. Tickets cost Lm5. Children at Lm2.
