Public Transport – Service with a smile

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

From Mr T. Naudi

“Excellent service” was the comment made about the Maltese public transport by four French group leaders. They were accompanying 42 students from the College St Joseph le Rose of Le Puy en Velay, who were following an English Language programme with Chamber College in Gzira.

On 24 April, the group was spending free time in Valletta and at 5.15pm decided to take a bus back home to Sliema. The group literally filled the bus, and the bus ride felt more like a private transfer as very few people boarded the bus.

The leaders experienced some anxiety when the bus arrived at the Paceville terminus and they realised that they had missed their stop in the Sliema Strand. After a few words with the bus driver and the dispatcher on duty, the same bus no. 62 made a special trip to the Strand to drop off the students and returned to Paceville terminus for its scheduled trips.

The group leaders were amazed that the public bus had literally offered a free taxi service to this group of students. This service with a smile had 46 satisfied tourists! Well done to Maltese public transport; this is how little things contribute to the concept of brand Malta!
