The website www.lewropa-xghamlet.org.mt was launched at a 400 year old palazzo in the heart of Naxxar, known as Ta’ Stringi, at an occasion that included Maltese cuisine, melodic Maltese lyrical talent and paintings.

It is supported by the European Commission and can be considered as one of the tools which tell what the EU is doing. Hosting on-line polls and forums, it gives a specific outline of what the EU has done, and encourages debate – a microphone through which one may speak out loud.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Joanna Drake, Head of the European Commission Representation to Malta, commended such innovative initiatives, as ways in which active citizenship may be encouraged. And she added that, perhaps more than the question “What has Europe done for us?”, taking from the late President Kennedy, we should be asking, “What can we do for Europe?”

Cheryl Micallef-Borg, JEF Malta president, gave an assurance that any comments, criticism, suggestions or even simply observations, gathered through the website, would be directly forwarded to Margot Wallström, Vice President to the European Commission and her DG. She also encouraged all to log onto the website, and if they had a website of their own to insert a link to it.
