Europe’s Green light due to positive policies – PN

Malta Independent Monday, 21 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The positive reports from the European Commission and the European Central Bank show that Government’s policies are yielding positive results based on solid finance and a robust economy, said the Nationalist Party in a statement.

Likewise, the reports reaffirm the Malta Labour Party’s political gaffes as it opposes every step that brings innovation. The statement said that when he was prime minister, Dr Alfred Sant used to receive negative credit ratings because of policies such as the freezing of Malta’s EU accession application, the taxes that were introduced and the massive deficit that was recorded. Labour’s erroneous policies were confirmed when Dr Sant said he was in favour of a 10 per cent depreciation of the lira, said the PN.

The statement also accused the MLP of being negative and of unleashing an attack on the National Statistics Office and its Director General in the run up to the EC’s decision. It also accused the MLP of sending an anonymous report to the EU in a bid to discredit the government’s work.
