JosAnn Cutajar from the University of Malta and John Vella from Bir Mula Heritage attended a course on heritage education in St Jean d’Angely, France, in the last week of April. The course was funded by support from the European Commission through a grant given under the Socrates Programme.

The course dealt with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote heritage education actively by means of an art-based methodology using photography, film, plastic arts, music, drama, painting and other media, and the objective was to present the participants with a series of methodologies that would enable them to work with youngsters and adults in actively experiencing their own cultural heritage.

The course included a number of field visits, active hands-on training workshops, lectures and reflections on the exercises conducted and the participants’ own projects in this sector. Apart from Malta, participants came from Norway, The Netherlands and Belgium.
