The “quick decision” taken by Heritage Malta to change the working conditions of instructors seconded to the agency from the Education Department would lead to the loss of more resources and an increase in recurrent expenditure, Labour spokesmen Joe Brincat and Roderick Galdes said in a statement yesterday.

The change in the working conditions has pushed these employees to apply to re-join the Education Department. It was evident that Heritage Malta was not making the best use of its human resources, the spokesmen added.

This would put further pressure on an agency that had been hit by financial difficulties for capital projects. Added to this, recurrent expenditure had risen sharply over the past years and the agency could no longer fulfil its obligations.

Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech told Parliament that alternative arrangements were being made. The MLP spokesmen challenged Dr Zammit Dimech to say how much money would be spent by the agency for such alternative arrangements.
