Vigil Of Pentecost celebration

Malta Independent Tuesday, 22 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

This year, the diocesan celebration on the occasion of the Vigil of Pentecost will be held on Saturday, in Tumas Fenech Street, behind the Basilica of St Helen, Birkirkara, at 7.30pm.

The solemnity of Pentecost is a reminder of the occasion when the Church, in its beginning, received the gift of the Holy Spirit and reached out to preach the Gospel. The Church is calling on Christians to unite together, on the occasion of Pentecost, to thank God for the continued renewal of the Church, through the Holy Spirit. This year, this is also being evidenced with the canonisation of the Blessed Gorg Preca, which will be taking place on Sunday, 3 June.

The celebration will be led by Archbishop Mgr Paul Cremona OP and will include a Mass. The Vigil of Prayer is being considered as an occasion for the spiritual preparation of the faithful for the canonisation of Dun Gorg.

A similar celebration will be held in St George’s Square, Victoria, Gozo.
