A man was yesterday jailed for eight months after pleading guilty to assaulting and slightly injuring a number of police officers in April.
Victor Refalo, 42, from St Paul’s Bay, was jailed after the court heard how he assaulted and resisted police officers at his house and also slightly injured a police officer.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera, said that Refalo is an alcoholic and usually gets into trouble when under the influence of alcohol. It thus had to hand down a judgement with which it protects the police who are carrying out their duties.
For these reasons, the Court jailed Refalo for eight months and recommended that while at the Corradino Correction Facility, he is assisted to tackle his alcohol addiction.
Police Inspector Paul Bond prosecuted.
