The Association of Local Councils said it has taken the initiative to urge local councils to contribute to make it possible to replace the trees vandalised at Mellieha some days ago.

Over 20 councils responded to the call in just three days, the association said, and it was expected that all councils would have answered in a short time. Its message, the association said, was to promote the environment and condemn destruction, wherever it came from.

The Association of Executive Secretaries is also to approach the Federation of European Executive Secretaries to see if a contribution can also be made to the initiative.
