Various members of the Malta Gay Rights Movement have held a meeting with Archbishop Mgr Paul Cremona OP.

A number of concerns of interest to the gay community were discussed, including homophobia in society and in the educational sector, the lack of recognition of same sex couples by the state and the difficulties faced by gay individuals with a calling to the priesthood or religious life.

Some areas of agreement between the two sides emerged, such as the unequivocal condemnation of homophobic violence and bullying and the need to differentiate between homosexuality and paedophilia, the movement said in a statement.

A paper outlining the MGRM’s position in respect of Church teachings on homosexuality, together with two information booklets, were presented to Archbishop Cremona.
