People over 18 years of age will no longer require the signature of what is known as “the recommender” when they apply to renew their passport, the Department of Information said yesterday.

Such an endorsement will be requested only when applications for a new passport are submitted, it said.

From now on, a valid identity card will be enough for people to renew their passport, together with the presentation of the passport that is about to expire or has expired.

If applying to renew a passport by post, the old passport and the identity card must be presented when the new passport is

collected.

A recommender, as well as signatures of the parents/tutors, will still be required for people under 18 years of age.
