On 28 May 2004, a group of Maltese students from two schools, who were on a cultural exchange programme with Locri and Bova Marina in Reggio Calabria, were taken by their teachers to the Madonna di Pompei sanctuary in Bombile, where they heard Mass.

At around 11.30am the group left the area and returned to Locri. While they were having lunch they heard that the church they had just been in had collapsed.

The students have created a picture of what happened in remembrance of the miracle that left them unscathed.
