Malta Shipyards is pleased to announce that the Fairmount Fjell arrived in Malta yesterday. The vessel proceeded to the Marsa site where the work, which is expected to continue for the rest of the year, will be carried out. This is the second of the two major heavy transport vessel conversion projects announced in early 2006.

The conversion work on the first vessel Fairmount Fjord continues at the Cospicua site. This vessel was floated for the first time at the end of last week. Fairmount CEO Philip Adkins stated: “There is still a lot to be done to complete the vessel for final readiness, we will continue to focus our resources in every way possible to accelerate completion”.

These two Fairmount projects are the largest conversion projects of this type ever undertaken by Malta Shipyards. Very serious management commitment has been required to plan, gather and coordinate all the resources required. The successful conclusion of both Fairmount projects is dependent on the performance of the yard; the required progress on this work depends on the concerted effort of each and every worker involved.

With other projects already in-progress and these two conversions, Malta Shipyards has a high workload and busy period ahead. What is required during this period is that each and every worker is on-the-job on time and gives his best effort to produce quality work and maintain a safe environment.

Yard performance on these projects will be regarded by the offshore industry as a benchmark Malta Shipyards’ capabilities. The future of the shipyards and further opportunities in the large conversion market will be directly influenced by the outcome of these contracts.
