After months of despair, common sense has prevailed. The rape of the virgin land earmarked for destruction due to a golf course that was to be built on it and which hosts such a diversity of plants, archaeological remains, agricultural land and plentiful underground water, will not take place.

The news that the original plans have been scraped by the same Prime Minister who promoted the idea of a golf course has been welcomed with relief, not just by those environmentalists who fought hard by producing facts about the sensitivity of the site, but also from the hundreds of people who had attended two walks on site.

The walks, which where organised as a silent protest, not as standard protests, invited people to see and explore first hand what the site offers environmentally and ecologically.

We all look forward to visiting the area’s pristine beauty, which was saved from destruction, but this time under the status of a nature park.
