Work on the second phase of the belvedere running along the beautiful coast off Zurrieq has started (TMID, 23 May).

The area in question is one of the loveliest sites of Malta, and needed the attention that it is now getting. While the work is still taking place, I suggest that the department concerned takes into consideration adding more lighting to the area, and possibly install close circuit TV cameras as well.

We know what happened a few weeks ago – when part of the belvedere was ruined by vandals, who threw used oil. I suggest that matters are taken in hand immediately to act as a deterrent against those who might be already planning to ruin the area once the work is completed.
