Malta Independent Wednesday, 30 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

Mtarfa FC will be taking part for the first time in the BOV Third Division League. Their application was approved by the MFA Council. They will be replacing Ta’ Xbiex FC, whose application was rejected. The application of Swieqi FC was also turned down while that of Santa Lucija FC was approved.

The BOV Third Division for season 2007-2008 will again comprise 19 teams. However, the teams will be divided into two sections, one with ten and the other with nine teams. Each section will be played over two rounds.

The winner of each section will be promoted automatically to the BOV Second Division. The promotion play-offs, this time to be played on a knock-out basis, will see four teams in contention. These will be the runner up in each section, the winner of a decider between the third-placed teams and the tenth-placed in Division II.

The Calendar of the BOV First and Second Division Leagues for season 2007-2008 was approved. The First Division starts on the 6 October and ends on 18 May 2008, while the Second Division is due to kick-off on the 22 September and will come to an end on 11 May 2008. All Second division matches are scheduled to be played at the Centenary Stadium.

The First Division will be played at the Hibs Ground and the Victor Tedesco Stadium, with part of the programme between 26 October and 24 November and some matches during January and February 2008 to be played at the Centenary Stadium.

In the Knock-Out competitions, the Preliminary Round of the First Division will be played on 18 November and the quarter-finals scheduled for 12 and 13 April, the semi-finals on 25 May and the final on 29 May 2008.

The First Division teams will also take part in the U*BET FA Trophy, which is due to start with the First Round on 3, 4, 10 and 11 November 2007 at the Centenary Stadium. The group phase of the Second and Third Division Knock-Out will be played between 1 and 21 September, with the quarter-finals programmed for 29 and 30 December. The semi-finals are due for 23 March and the final for 30 May 2008.
