Kirkop local council said the European authority for occupational health and safety has accepted to extend its technical assistance in the case of the company Multigas, where an explosion occurred recently.

The council said the decision followed the intervention of MEP Joseph Muscat. It said it noted the recommendation the European authority made, that European best practice meant that representatives of the community would be involved in investigations relating to such incidents.

Unfortunately, the council added, this involvement, which would help to build trust between the operator and the community, was not made in its case, though it had insisted on it. It thanked the European and Maltese authorities for occupational health for their contribution, and called for full transparency in the investigative process.
