The Grow a Tree campaign this year was concluded earlier this month at the research and agricultural development centre at the Ghammieri where a prize-giving ceremony was held.

Five schools took part in the campaign, growing a total of 2,169 trees. The most successful was St Aloysius College, whose students won two of the five categories, including the category for the largest number of trees grown by the same school.

The aim of the campaign is to teach students to appreciate better the importance of trees in the natural environment. The Department of Information said that teaching them in class how to grow trees encourages them from a young age to contribute to the protection of nature and woodlands.
