The Laudate Pueri Choir of St George’s Basilica in Gozo has been invited for the canonisation of our first saint, Dun Gorg Preca. The director of the Sistine Chapel Choir, Mgr Giuseppe Liberto, sent an invitation to Fr George Frendo, director of the Laudate Pueri Choir, asking him to participate in the Papal Mass on Sunday, during which our Dun Gorg Preca will be canonised. This is not the first time that this choir will sing at the Vatican.
The Laudate Pueri Choir was formally set up in 1976 by the present Archpriest of St George’s Basilica in Victoria, Rev. Dr Joseph Farrugia. During its 31 years, besides enhancing the beautiful Basilica of St George with its angelic voices, it has performed in various concerts in Malta and Gozo and also in the Vatican, in Marseille, France; Rocca di Mezzo, Italy; the United Kingdom and New York and has also been broadcast on various international TV stations.
It is a great tribute earned by this famous Gozitan choir and my heartfelt congratulations go to the Archpriest, Mgr Dr Joseph Farrugia, Fr George J. Frendo, the leader of the choir Dr Maria Frendo, Prof. Mro Joseph Vella and the choristers who brought so much joy to many.
St George’s Choir to perform for the canonisation of our brand new St Gorg. A perfect match indeed.
