Reaching Out to local councils

Malta Independent Friday, 1 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

In the past year, US Embassy diplomats have visited over 20 local councils in Malta and Gozo in an effort to learn more about the villages and towns of the islands and to exchange ideas for further cooperation. The most recent presentations took place at the St Julian’s and Attard local councils.

During each visit, US Embassy representatives donated a number of books concerning American culture, history and society to local libraries.

In several communities, plans have been made to organize digital video conferences between residents of Maltese localities and American speakers. Local councils and the US Embassy have also organized several joint programs with schools such as tree plantings, trash cleanups, and discussions on American culture and society.
