Two men were yesterday charged separately after they were found in possession of drugs which were found in circumstances denoting they were not for their personal use.

In the first case, Ernest Briffa, 29, from Zabbar, was charged with being in possession of six grammes of heroin which was not for his personal use. He was found possession of the heroin on 29 May.

Before magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, Mr Briffa pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was granted bail against a deposit of Lm200 and a personal guarantee of Lm800.

Police Inspector Dennis Theuma prosecuted while Dr Ian Farrugia appeared for the accused.

In the second case, bus driver Nicholas Anthony Fenech, 33, from Senglea, was charged with possessing 96 ecstasy pills, an amount of cannabis resin and an amount of cocaine, all found in circumstances denoting they were not for his personal use.

Police Inspector Theuma said 24 pills were found on the man’s bus while the rest of the drugs were found during a search at his house in Senglea.

Magistrate Apap Bologna heard Mr Fenech plead not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was refused bail and remanded in custody. Dr Franco Debono appeared for the accused.
