Reading the letter by Patrick Fenech (TMID, 29 May) about litter on the beach at Sliema or any beach in Malta I have only a small comment to make!

Please never ask the question "when are we going to learn". We never will. The only solution is to fine people heavily.

If the police had the will to enforce anything it does not take rocket science to send a couple of police officers posing as sunbathers and nab a few. They can even take video evidence as a camera on the beach will not draw any attention.
