Bank of Valletta is rallying its support towards the Environmental Week that is being organised between Monday and Sunday.
A number of activities are being organised to coincide with the World Environment Day, an annual event which is commemorated on 5 June. Originally established by the United Nations in 1972, it aims at raising worldwide awareness about the environment, and our responsibility to take care of it, both for our sake and for those of our children.
Following the successful participation in the Earth Garden in May 2007, Bank of Valletta is supporting a number of activities that are being held during the Environmental Week. BOV is sponsoring an art exhibition on the theme, “Trees and the Environment”, organised by the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment, in aid of the 34U Campaign. Featuring works of 20 local artists, the exhibition will be launched on Friday at the St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta.
A major initiative that BOV will be taking on Thursday is an underwater beach clean-up. This event will see a team of BOV divers and other employees and divers from the Calypso Sub Aqua Club working together to clean the seabed of one of Malta’s most popular beaches in the Sliema area. This environment-friendly operation is being coordinated by the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment.
Bank of Valletta will also be taking part in the Environment Festival that is being held at the Independence Gardens in Sliema on Saturday and Sunday to close off the Environmental Week.
Speaking about the bank’s role in the forthcoming Environmental Week activities, Michael Galea, Head of Marketing and Communication stated that, “Bank of Valletta’s association with and active participation in the Environmental Week 2007 is yet another initiative that underlines the bank’s resolve towards supporting the creation of a better environment. It also shows how Bank of Valletta is committed to the principles of good corporate social responsibility.” He added that Bank of Valletta holds the environment in high regard in terms of promoting awareness about our responsibility towards it, taking positive action that enhances the environment in general, as well as minimising any negative impact through day-to-day operations. “Besides raising awareness among customers, we are also introducing products in our portfolio that encourage our customers to use environmental-friendly equipment,” concluded Mr Galea.
