I found myself intrigued by the contents of the article by Daphne Caruana Galizia entitled “Modern miracles and the medieval mind” (TMIS, 27 May).

There are three major flaws in said article: Dun Gorg Preca did NOT perform the miracle, God did. Not even Our Lady can perform miracles!

Ms Caruana Galizia does not seem to be familiar with the strict, objective, and very complicated canonization process undertaken by the Congregation for Saints at the Vatican.

“Bribing” St Anthony to find keys has nothing to do with her argument. In fact it is a rather silly approach toward understanding what saints are all about.

Ms Caruana Galizia has every right to her opinion. However, a thorough study of the workings of the Congregation for Saints might change her mind and might also assist her to discover the true meaning of the miraculous and that Faith neither clashes with medical research nor hinders its development.

The clash exists only when medical research is done at the cost of violating natural law.
