The athletics group taking part in the Games for the Small Nations of Europe in Monaco were toasted and given all the best wishes from the top officials of the Malta Amateur Athletic Association, the Malta Olympic Committee and the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport during an informal meeting held on a windswept terrace at the Westin Dragonara last Wednesday evening.
It was a befitting good luck activity to all the athletes who deserved to be toasted and further encouraged after all the hard work that they have been toiling at during the last months – especially the Championships – when they had been busy bettering their timings, furthering their strengths and breaking some national records on the way, in their particular athletic discipline.
Anthony Chircop, Malta Amateur Athletic president encouraged all the participants to do their very best and hinted that they should aim more for gold as a befitting reward could be waiting for them on their return from the games.
Both the Malta Olympic Committee President Lino Farrugia Sacco and director of Sports Pippo Psaila expressed ‘certainty’ that all the athletes will do very well in these competitions.
They also promised that the successful athletes will be rewarded though they did not mentioned what kind of reward it will consist of.
Franco Azzopardi, President of the Kunsill Malti ghall-isport also concurred and said that the Council will be present at the Games to support the athletes.
