The Luxol Basketball Nursery concluded its 2006/07 programme with an end-of-season Presentation held recently at the Luxol Gym. Players of various age-groups, who topped their category in a marathon Free-Throw Shooting competition, were presented with trophies and medals by their respective coaches in an activity which also included a teams photo-session and a small reception.

Young Christina Curmi (U11 Girls) was the overall winner of the competition with a tally of 16 baskets from 18 free-shots whilst Lara Caruana Montaldo (U9 Girls), Ben Caruana (U9 Boys), Michael Andreinski (U11 Boys), Dawn Grech (U13 Girls), Stefan Cappello (U13 Boys), Rebecca Naudi (U15 Girls) and Nicola Vasovic (U15 Boys) won the other prizes at stake. Players Sofie Abela, Christina Curmi, Ben Caruana and Jacques Borg were awarded a special trophy for collecting the most sponsorship money in this fund-raising activity organised by the Club.

In a short address, Mr Joe Falzon, Luxol Director and Manager of the Basketball sector, congratulated all participants for their effort. Special mention and appreciation went to the Girls U15 team, coached by Justine Mangion, who were crowned MBA Cadettes Champions this season and the Boys U15, Junior Men and Women and the Young Women teams who all finished runners-up in their respective categories.

Luxol took part in all competitions at junior level organised by the MBA including regular participation in the Mini-Basket Tournaments and Festivals throughout the season.

The next activity will be a series of basketball training and fun sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday morning at the Luxol Gym starting in July as part of the Nursery’s Summer Camp programme from the Under 9 up to the Under 15 age-groups.
