A man was cleared yesterday of falsifying and using a passport with a false stamp on it after a Magistrates’ Court ruled that the prosecution had not managed to prove its case.
Iakob Nori, 31, from Libya, was originally charged with falsifying a passport and using it on 23 December 2005.
Handing down her judgement, magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera ruled that the prosecution had not managed to prove that it was the accused who had stamped a false stamp on his passport, nor even that he knew he was using a passport with a false stamp on it. As a result, the magistrate cleared Mr Nori of the charges brought against him.
Police Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri prosecuted.
