A company that increases its employees, expands its facilities and penetrates new markets is surely an example of a success story; an example that proves that Maltese workers are of high quality and we can compete with anyone.
A company that in 12 years managed to find ways and means to expand, from 40 seats in 1995 to the present 500 seats and with projections for further expansion is definitely an example setter to other companies, and this is not all! The company plans to further expand its service range and increase its investment. They are targeting to increase the workforce up to 1,200 – that means another 500 new jobs.
Dial-It call centre forms part of the Maltacom Group. The company was launched as Telepage Ltd back in April 1995 and provided a paging service. In 2000, the company embarked on a new strategic direction and entered the call centre industry. Thanks to the ability and professionalism of both the management and its employees, the company has become firmly established and remains the largest call-centre in Malta.
With over 72 per cent of the work originating from European Union member states, it proves that accession has increased the opportunities for Maltese companies.
I have heard repeatedly that to be successful one has to improve the quality of the product or service provided. My visits during this last constituency week confirmed this and expanded by penetrating foreign markets even those from non-EU countries.
Agreements that the EU has with third countries also help these companies penetrate non-EU markets.
With modern technologies, we can reach markets that where unreachable until some time ago. Thanks to the investment carried out by the Nationalist government in the IT sector and EU membership, Maltese businesses have the facilities to network with worldwide companies seeking new markets to penetrate.
For companies to succeed in the world market competition they require a strong backbone. Skilled workers that have the latest training and an education system that provides the latest and most up to date knowledge available form this backbone.
For a nation to succeed it must continue to renew itself and together we can renew ourselves to continue striving. The investment of Lm50 million for a new campus for MCAST is necessary if we want to continue to attract high quality investment while at the same time provide the latest knowledge for our students.
The vision of having a workforce that is knowledge-based is leaving a positive effect on our country. This is improving our status as a nation that is worth investing in, and this is also thanks to our political stability.
Once again, the Nationalist Party is renewing the successes from the past and the present by projecting an even more prosperous future. A future built on consultation and dialogue with the public. A vision that plans to create further success and quality employment for the Maltese.
Malta’s adoption of the euro on 1 January 2008 confirms this success. It is a step that will increase our competitiveness in international markets while at the same time solidify our economic growth.
Since the achievement of Independence on 21 September 1964, the Nationalist Party in government never looked back and achieved the objectives that were entrusted in its hands. These success stories led the Maltese population to be recognised by politicians and investors alike, that although we fail in natural resources we have the most valuable resource in our workforce that makes our country competitive in international markets.
We definitely have come a long way since the commencement of our European adventure three years ago. The decisive decisions taken by the government led by Prime Minister Gonzi have once again been proved as being the best in the interest of our country, our children and ourselves. The determination shown by Nationalist administrations to put Malta and its people amongst the finest has once again left the results.
The great accomplishments this generation achieved, the European Union accession and last Wednesday’s reports, also mean further work for our future generations. We must ensure that we continue building on these results and continue writing further chapters in our European Adventure success storybook.
When one considers that in less than 20 years Malta has been transformed from an isolated country into a country that is being recognised for its economic achievements and for the prosperous future ahead of us, then one can also see that the hard work has paid off handsomely. This growth and success story line may be granted continuity only if the electorate gives the mandate next year and says Yes for our country’s prosperity.
