There was not much comfort in the pool yesterday for the Maltese swimmers where it was only Madeleine Scerri who netted a bronze medal.

She finished third in the 100m freestyle final in a time of 1:08.49. The winner was Dan Gales of Luxembourg in 1:06.47.

It was her second bronze medal of these Games. On Tuesday she had won her first bronze in the 200m.

In the 400m freestyle, Davina Mangion finished a distant sixth in a time of 4:42.38, while in the men’s event, Neil Agius was also well away from the leading trio, finishing sixth in a time of 4:18.39.

In the 100m butterfly, Anna Galea clocked 1:05.22, but she could only finish fifth with Cypriot girl N. Hadjiloizou winning gold in a time of 1:02.69.

Galea was also in the 100m breaststroke final where she finished sixth in a time of 1:19.99. The winner, H. Luthersdottir of Iceland, clocked 1:13.17.

The relay team, consisting of Madeleine Scerri, Nicole Cremona, Davina Mangion and Talisa Pace, finished fourth in the 2 x 400m women’s final.
