The president of the Malta Olympic Committee, Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco, has confirmed to The Malta Independent, that the World Bowls Federation is sending two international carpets to Malta.
Farrugia Sacco said he met Dott Rizzoli, who is the president of the world federation and is also the president of the Italian federation, after Malta had almost surprised San Marino in the semi-finals.
He said Rizzoli was impressed with the standard of the Maltese bowlers and said they deserved to have better facilities to continue improving. It was here that he promised the MOC president that he would be sending two international carpets for use by Maltese bowlers.
Meanwhile, David Farrugia's bronze medal win was also reported in the Journal of the Games, which is printed daily here and distributed at the sports venues.
Farrugia described his victory over team-mate Joseph Demanuele, as a match between two friends. He said: "It was very strange. It was like a match among friends. But the best man won …!"
Farrugia also said that it gave him great satisfaction to win a medal for his country.
