The reconstruction of the road in Ghajnsielem, which connects the port at Mgarr with Xewkija and which is the main thoroughfare to the island’s capital, Victoria, is at an advanced stage, Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett said yesterday.
Speaking during an on-site visit, Mr Mugliett said that the road, which was being built to European standards, would improve the quality of life of whoever used it. The road, which is 2.4 kilometres long, is being rebuilt using European Union Cohesion Funds. More than Lm1.5 million are being spent.
An underground services culvert reaching 1.8 metres in height was built through which water pipes, electricity wires, telephone and cable television cables are all being passed.
The road is just one of a number of roads in Gozo which are being reconstructed using EU funds, totalling around five kilometers of roads.
