The two Maltese players taking part in the European Snooker Championships had mixed fortunes on day four in Carlow.
From Group A, defending champion Alex Borg won his third match from four when he beat Anthony Brabin of Cyprus 4-1. It was a good performance from the Maltese champion who recovered from the loss of the first frame to win the next four including breaks of 57 and 54.
Borg is currently second in the group behind Martin Mc Crudden of the Republic of Ireland who has won all his matches. But Borg has a chance to go top when the two players meet today at 1000hrs local time (1100hrs Malta time). Four players from eight in the group go through to the last 32 knock-out stages.
Meanwhile it was a different story for the other Maltese player Simon Zammit as he suffered his second consecutive defeat in Group H when he lost to Tom Gleeson of the Republic of Ireland 1-4. Simon is currently fourth in the group with two wins out of 4 matches. Today Zammit has another difficult opponent when he meets David Mills of Wales at 1900hrs local time. Mills is currently heading Group H together with Gleeson and Joe Meara of Northern Ireland who have all won their matches.
