The Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise’s Leisure and Tourism Economic Group (LTEG) said that the resignation of the Malta Tourism Authority’s Chief Executive Officer after only nine months is the fourth change at the helm of the MTA in as many years.

The LTEG Chairman, Mr Vincent Tabone said that “when it seems that the number of tourist arrivals – when compared to last years’ figures – is on the increase, and when we finally got our act together by engaging the services of a reputable company to look after our marketing for the next three years, we are now faced with yet another break at the helm of MTA.”

He added that surely there are competent persons that are able to fill the post for a longer period than we had so far, thus ensuring a smooth running of such an important authority.

Mr Tabone concluded that the LTEG urges the competent authorities to immediately start searching for such a person, as this post cannot remain vacant at such a sensitive crossroad for the local tourism industry.
