Football: Victor Sciriha Is new Valletta president

Former Marsaxlokk president Victor Sciriha was elected new Valletta FC president during the election held between Sunday and Monday.

Sciriha polled the highest number of votes – 457, 50 more than the 407 obtained by Sergio Zampa, who will be occupying the post of executive vice-president.

Joe Calleja, a former director of Birkirkara, was also elected with 370 votes and he will be the vice-president of the club. Anton Abela retains the post of general secretary while Michael Palmier will be the treasurer.

Former executive vice-president Paul Spiteri will be a member of the committee, but will also be the club’s MFA Council member. He polled 265 votes. Former president Charles Camilleri had 310 votes in favour.

It was also announced during the meeting that Steve Bezzina was voted Player of the Year 2006 – 2007. Steve was chosen from votes cast by all members.

Bezzina had an excellent season with Valletta FC and also with the National U-21 squad.

Floriana FC name Danilo Doncic as their new coach

Former Valletta and Sliema W. striker Danilo Doncic has been appointed new Floriana coach for season 2007-08. He will be responsible for the senior string as well as other aspects connected with football.

Floriana’s top officials have again been confirmed for the coming season. Joe Cauchi remains club president, Dione Borg, secretary, Alex Cassar treasurer and John Borg and Mario Borg will be the vice-presidents.

Meanwhile, the Greens committee is holding talks with several players on the possibility of extending their contracts. Several players who were on loan with other clubs will be returning to the fold this season.

And the new committee has confirmed Wendell Gomes as one of the foreign players for the coming season.

The new committee has also confirmed defender Mario Caruana as the player of the year of the club. A vote was taken on this issue during the annual general meeting held last Sunday.

Msida St Joseph

Msida Saint Joseph Football Club will be organising the annual general meeting next Friday at 6.30pm at the Mater Dei School.

There will also be the elections for the committee and this can also include an election for the club president.

Birkirkara FC

The annual general meeting of the club is being held next Friday at 7pm at the club in Valley Road, Birkirkara.

All members are urged to attend.
