The “San Michel” team tennis tournament held at Tennis Club Kordin and sponsored by Simonds Farsons Cisk through their product San Michel Table Water, came to an end with a thrilling finale.

It was a final worthy of one of the most balanced, exciting and sporting tournaments ever held at the club.

Both captains, Joe Vella (team E) and Mary Xuereb (team A) presented their best formations for this encounter. From the beginning, it was clear that the battle was going to be tough and hard for both teams.

This was proved more so when up to the fourth rubber the score stood four sets each. Excitement reigned high both, on the courts and on the stands.

The crowd, present for this final, resembled that at a football match and the vocal support for the two teams never stopped.

The fifth rubber that of the Ladies’ B encounter, went in favour of Joe Vella’s team when Monica Muscat / Monica Grech beat R'Anne Brincat / Mary Xuereb by two sets to love. This win put Team E of Joe Vella on the pole position needing only two sets from the last two rubbers, the Men’s A and Ladies A.

The attention of the crowd now was on Court 1 and Court 3 where these two respective encounters were being played.

In the Ladies A, Anna Fava / Virginia Calleja won the first set for Team E. The crowd erupted when, on Court 1, Clayton Zammit /Robert Attard of Team E also won their first set against Richard Magri / Emanuel Bonello thus, making sure that, the most coveted shield, was won by Joe Vella's Team
