The Wilkinson Sword league resumes today and tomorrow and the last match on the programme features the two big rivals of the local game, Sliema McDonalds and Neptunes Vodafone.
It is the first big match in this year’s summer league and it is bound to attract a bumper crowd to the Tal-Qroqq Pool.
At present, the top clubs have won all their matches against the so-called small clubs, but tomorrow’s big match should start providing the fireworks till the end of the competition, especially in the second round, when it should become tighter.
Sliema will be eager to take revenge for the defeat by their rivals in the final match of the winter league which cost them the title, won by Sirens, while Neptunes will also be looking forward to repeat the dose and make a valuable step forward towards this year’s summer title.
In the other matches this weekend, Marsascala Breakers should obtain their first win against Gozitan side Otters, while Sirens Hard Rock Café could be hard pressed by San Giljan Zara who have still to suffer their first defeat.
Tomorrow, Exiles Pender Gardens should start as favourites against Marsaxlokk Freeport, while Marsascala may register their second consecutive win against Ta’ Xbiex Mermaids Paradise.
