From Dr F. Portelli
Most people in Malta greeted with satisfaction the announcement made by Prime Minister Dr Gonzi on 11 June that Parliament will pass a new public service law which will provide protection to whistle-blowers
Many individuals, from all sides of the political divide, as well as the press association, have lobbied for the enactment of a whistle-blower act – and in a small way I also played a role when I met the Prime Minister on 6 June and presented him with a letter requesting him to introduce a public disclosure act – commonly known as a whistle-blower act.
Official sources had stated not so long ago that the drafting of a Whistle-blower Act had not been in the government’s immediate legislative programme
Full credit must go to Dr Gonzi for taking the bull by the horns and showing the country his commitment to fight corruption.
