Nadur has seen people doing things with good taste: our church is a prime example.

But now, L-Ghaqda tal-Arbli has erected a big flagpole on the cliff near Ta’ Kenuna Tower. It is 140 feet high. Really!

It is monstrous to see. Tall does not mean the best. As, for example in a display of fireworks on the ground, quantity does not mean quality. Also in bad taste are the flags they are promoting, which are made of horizontal yellow and red stripes. The flag is pushing forward the same spirit that is felt when one goes to a football game.

Could it be that these are a sign that excessive rivalry is again raising its head? This is not a Christian quality.

Whose brilliant idea was it? Maybe the person responsible was meditating on the passage in the Bible, Esther 5:14, when Haman decided to erect a big pole from which to hang his enemy. If so, it means that sometimes people go wrong when meditating the Bible; sometimes people go wrong when venerating their patron saints.
