Paying Homage to Caravaggio

Malta Independent Monday, 18 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Claire Baluci is giving a live concert, with two choirs, dancers and laser projection in a Heritage Malta “Tribute to a Master” activity, paying homage to Caravaggio. It will take place at the conservation section at Bighi on 23 June, as part of the activities marking the 400th anniversary since the great painter was in Malta.

The aim is to raise funds for the conservation of major works by ‘Caravaggisti’ painters such as Stomer, Cassarino and Valentin.

In his 17-month sojourn here, Caravaggio was commissioned to do various paintings, including probably his most important, the Beheading of St John, which is displayed at St John’s Co-Cathedral. It is also the only one signed by the great master.
