A meeting has been held to discuss the present situation of judo in Malta after some of the ceiling slabs at their Pembroke premises caved in, thus forcing the association to close down the building.

It was called by Education Minister Louis Galea after learning of the association’s dilemma. The meeting was held at the Ministry on Monday. Present for the meeting was the Chairman and CEO of the Sports Council, Franco Azzopardi and Joe Cassar.

During the meeting, the Minister showed his full solidarity with the Judo Federation and to alleviate the current crisis, offered temporary alternative housing for the national team, at least till the coming European Championships.

The Minister also took the opportunity to discuss the MJF’s new facilities in Pembroke and asked how he could be of help to kick start the project, now at a standstill for the past seven years. Various ideas were discussed and further discussions are to be continued directly with the Sport Council.

The Judo Federation thanked all those who have given their full support after the unexpected problem that the Judokas were faced with.

The Maltese Judokas have promised to keep working hard to increase their success and work harder to see Maltese sport make progress and reach higher standards.
