Established local and international artistes are listed to perform at the sixth Gozo Music Festival, which this year will be held at the Maxtura Fields in August, the festival organisers, Dynamic Promotions, collaborators Fresh Music Agency and Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said yesterday.
The Gozo Music Festival, which will be held on 18 August, is an annual event that has become well-established, especially with young people, providing an ideal opportunity for local talent to perform alongside established international artistes on the music scene. This year’s line-up includes Ira Losco and Band, Winter Moods, Ivan Filletti and Friends, Scar, Gianni and Rug, Spectrum, Cash and band, Klinsmann and band and Indigo together with DJs Ruby, Miss Roberta, J Joy, Joseph Armani, Carl Bee, Alex Grech, Malcolm B and Duncan F to name a few.
Foreign artistes already signed up to participate include Shena, singer of the hits Stupidisco and Guilty, Erick E the Dutch House Master and Prezioso and Marvin, who are well-known for their Festivalbar 1999 Tell Me Why and Voglio Vederti Danzare among others.
Speaking at the media launch yesterday morning, Mrs Debono said that events such as the Gozo Music Festival increase Gozo’s popularity with visitors by offering a distinct and different night out for the younger generation, while providing an ideal platform for local artistes. Although well-patronised in August, Gozo does not have many special events such as the music festival to attract young people.
The Gozo Ministry is supporting the organisers of this event because it believes that cultural and entertaining high quality events contribute greatly to the tourism product on offer.
Mrs Debono referred to the recent successful holding of Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana by the Gozo Ministry and the Tourism and Culture Ministry, which amply demonstrated that cultural and musical events are popular with all generations. She also referred to the Gozo Attractions Incentive Scheme launched earlier this year by the Finance Ministry and the Gozo Ministry, to financially assist organisers of cultural or entertainment events that contribute to the island’s tourism product.
