Enemalta Suffers two more power cuts

Malta Independent Friday, 22 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Another two unexpected separate power cuts occurred yesterday affecting the Zebbug, Siggiewi and Qormi area and the Burmarrad, Mosta, Qawra, Bugibba and St’ Paul’s Bay area, each lasting just over two hours.

The power cut in the Zebbug area was caused as a result of a damage to an 11kv cable inside a trench near the Marsa distribution centre (see photo attached). Enemalta Chairman Ing. Alexander Tranter together with Enemalta engineers, were on spot minutes after the 11kv cable failed. Excavation works in the trench, where the cable fault occurred, were conducted without Enemalta's knowledge. A report at the Qormi police station has been lodged by Enemalta.

The power cut in the Bugibba area occurred following a transformer tripping at the Bugibba Distribution Centre. This fault is being currently investigated.

As a result of the recent spate of power cuts, Enemalta has increased the number of personnel on stand by. Enemalta regrets any inconvenience caused to its customers.
