A night vigil at Calypso’s Cave in Xaghra, Gozo, is being held tomorrow at 9pm to start the protest against the development proposed at Ramla l-Hamra, which is exceptionally rich in natural beauty and archaeological heritage.

The peaceful manifestation is intended to highlight how the proposed development will destroy once and for all the quasi-pristine state of the site as it survives from the time of Homer.

And how it will irreversibly eradicate the unique cultural asset that attracts thousands of visitors who marvel at the setting as described in that greatest epic of all times, where its hero Ulysses was shored up and dallied in trance as much by the beauty of the place as by that of the goddess.

The vigil is being organised on the initiative of the Ramblers’ Association in collaboration with Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar, Din l-Art Helwa and other environmental NGOs with the full collaboration of Xaghra and Xewkija local councils.

All those who have at heart the cultural and natural heritage of Gozo are invited to attend.

The peace and tranquillity of this place will be respected throughout the night vigil, in preparation for the Save Gozo Protest to follow at Valletta on Monday at 6.30pm.
