One of the club’s top officials, vice-president John Borg, yesterday told The Malta Independent that so far, not one single player has been put on the transfer list, not even those who are not in the coach’s plans for the coming season.

Borg added that the player has been linked to a battle royale between Valletta and Sliema. “However, I am unaware of any move yet on the part of the player, although I firmly believe he has been approached by at least one of the clubs,” said Borg.

The Stripes vice-president confirmed that the club’s transfer market has not ended with the signing of Paul Fenech, Emil Yantchev and Kenneth Spiteri. “It opens on 1 July and we are in no hurry, seeing that we intend starting our pre-season training in the middle of next month.”

Borg confirmed that the club will definitely be signing a goalkeeper, though Bernard Paris will be among the squad this season. “There are many options available to us. We will evaluate the situation as much as possible before coming to conclusions. The same may be said about our foreigners for the coming season. It is still early, although we have a Bulgarian at present training with us, though not for Intertoto Cup purposes. We will be consulting the coach to see what are our needs in this sector. Only then will be decide,” he said.

Asked what was the position of striker Etienne Barbara and defender William Camenzuli, Borg said: “So far there have been no official offers. What I can say is that Camenzuli’s contract with the club has expired and Barbara’s deal still has one more year to expire.”
