The Wilkinson Sword League resumes today and tomorrow.
The top clash is that being played this evening between Sliema McDonalds and Sirens Hard Rock Café, but tomorrow, there is also the Balluta Bay derby between Neptunes Vodafone and San Giljan Zara.
After their victory over Neptunes last week, Sliema will be looking forward to beat other championship contenders Sirens to set the pace at the top of the standings, apart from remaining the only unbeaten side in the competition.
At present, Sirens lead the standings with the maximum 12 points from six matches. They are followed by Neptunes and Sliema, who both have ten points, although Sliema have played one match fewer. San Giljan follow in fourth place on eight points from five matches.
It is a clear indication that this year’s championship, no doubt, will be contested between the three top clubs.
If Sliema win today, they will have an advantage over the other contenders and would be expected to go to the top tomorrow after their easy clash against Marsaxlokk Freeport.
Also tomorrow, Neptunes should return to winning form and maintain their challenge despite facing their rivals and close neighbours San Giljan.
In the other matches, Marsascala Breakers meet Marsaxlokk today while Gozitan side Otters ASC face Ta’ Xbiex Mermaids Paradise.
