Urgent Need for a bus lane

Malta Independent Saturday, 23 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The current trend in Malta and elsewhere is to encourage the use of public transport. A worthy move in this direction will be to introduce a bus lane from the exit of the Kirkop tunnels in the direction of Luqa up to the MacDonald’s clock. All that is required is to erect some signs and paint the necessary usual markings because there is already a line along this patch of road which could be used for an eventual Bus Lane.

Moreover, I would be speaking in the name of hundreds of commuters who use the Express Bus of route Number 132 if I state that I was surprised that this bus was not continued when the summer half-days for government employees commenced. Express Bus Number 132 was a step in the right direction and has been very successful. Consequently, it was a pity that this popular service was not adapted to serve even during the half-days.

I consider these suggestions very effective in encouraging the use of public transport.
